It’s no secret that I love plants and being out in nature, but sometimes it’s hard to get the time to spend outdoors - especially during the winter months when plants go dormant or die off. One easy hack is to bring nature indoors, creating spaces and corners filled with life.
As we begin a new year, almost halfway through the winter season, we can almost see Spring just around the corner! (Optimistically speaking, of course). But since we’re not quite there, having plants around the house or in our work space has been proven to significantly improve our sense of well-being. They are naturally aesthetically pleasing, often generating feelings of vitality and happiness, and can even teach us subtle lessons in mindfulness by learning to take care of them and patiently watching them grow with the changing of seasons.
It’s no wonder why we surround ourselves with plants during celebrations and tragedies (i.e. weddings and funerals, respectively), or set aside “sacred” green space for parks and community gardens in our cities and communities. We tend to naturally f e e l g o o d around plants. So, why not have them around all of the time?!

Despite what you may have been told about new years and fresh starts, January is actually a bad time to make a major change. It is a stressful time of year with the vacation and party season being in full swing, kids going back to school and shortened daylight hours making already busy days seem even more compressed.
I have created a list to help you create and stick with your resolutions for 2018.
"One Big Thing"
The MOST IMPORTANT strategy you can use is to pick your "One Big Thing." This is your ONE main goal for the year. This can be working out to shape your figure, learning to draw, following a healthy eating plan or to do something new. Once success is yours to keep on the first goal, you can move to the second one.
Another strategy you can use is to plan ahead. Stuff always comes up. Planning ahead will allow you to make sure you have the correct amount of resources. You can do research to prepare to meet your goals and plan for success. Preparing and planning deters excuses, helping you stay on track. Making a list of things you need to succeed will help you in the long run.
You should always anticipate problems so they don't catch you off guard. Think about the most likely issues you will face and how to solve them ahead of time. Things like the time of day, people, and situations like parties or eating gluten-free can be stressful, so create a way to cope and have a plan should things go awry.
Pick a day to start your resolutions. You want to be well rested and enthusiastic. Stay around supportive, helpful people and try your best to succeed in completing your goals. Start in February or when your routine returns to normal. Do not rush into this, instead, wait until your body and mind are ready to make these changes in your life.
Do It. JUST DO IT!!
Write it down, get an accountability buddy, and post reminders for yourself on your fridge or bathroom mirror. Write things like “ I enjoy a clean, simple life," and then live it. Using positive and optimistic words help to train your brain to think that way.
Give It 100%
Be prepared to work. You are either all in or all out in the things you do. There will be slip-ups or falls, but you can also get back on your feet. Don’t be afraid to mix things up or try new things. Plan for small rewards with each win. Success doesn't happen overnight. It is the small changes every day that add up over time.
It has been said that you are the average of the five people you are around the most. Choose wisely. Be aware of who you surround yourself with and ask yourself if these people really represent the you that you want to give to the world. If they don't, maybe it is time to find more positive people who are also ready to uplevel their lives and you can work together to achieve your goals.
Finally, you don't have to do all these at once. Small wins every day will help you accomplish your resolutions and bring desired change to your life. Your current life situation is the sum of the choices you have made over days, months and years.
I encourage you to try new foods and explore. Get out of your comforable rut. Live a little before you die!
Do ONE thing every day that makes you happy or scares the crap out of you. It helps you to feel alive. Some days just getting out of bed is a win. Keep going, don’t give up, and make your dreams happen.
